We all know we need to clean our makeup brushes regularly… but if we’re honest, most of us would probably admit we don’t clean them as often as we’d like to. In the past, one of the things that would prevent me from regularly cleaning my makeup brushes was that it would take me FOREVER to clean all gunk off of them. But about a year ago I came across a method that is super fast, non-toxic, and quite inexpensive!
Enter : Kirk’s Original Coco Castile Bar Soap. EWG gives it a toxicity score of 1 (which means it’s very clean), and it costs less than $3/bar on Amazon! As a side note, I have also used and gotten good results with Dr. Bronner’s Castile bar soap, but I don’t feel comfortable with the messages on its packaging (and it’s more expensive than Kirk’s).
Here’s what you do:
- Run very warm tap water over both your makeup brush and Castile bar soap (I do this at my bathroom sink).
- Swirl your makeup brush directly on the bar soap for several seconds. The makeup residue will start to dissolve.
- Thoroughly rinse both the brush and the bar in running warm water.
- Repeat steps 2 & 3 until your brush is sparkly clean!
With this method, it usually takes me well under 30 seconds to clean each of my makeup brushes!
